We are living in very unusual times, where social distancing and wearing a face mask is the new norm. With face masks being so highly sought after, it can be difficult to get your hands on one. Luckily, you can easily make a face mask with materials you have at home – and you don’t need to be a sewing expert. This is an easy no sew face mask that anyone can make!
What Materials Will You Need?
- 2 elastic bands
- 30cm x 30cm piece of fabric
- Scissors
What Material Is Best For A DIY Face Mask?
You can source your material from your local fabric store or up-cycle an old t-shirt, dish cloth of whatever you can find! Try to source material that is tightly woven to prevent small particles from breaking through. Researchers recommend either cotton, chiffon or silk.
Cut your material roughly 30cm x 30cm. This doesn’t have to be the exact size as you can cut it to your preference.
Lay your fabric out and fold it 3-4 times so that it is roughly 15cm deep.
Grab your two elastic bands and put them over the ends of the fabric, allowing about 15cm of material between the bands.
Grab one end and tuck in into the opening of the other end to make a loop.
Adjust the elastic bands to sit at the edges of the mask
Gently tug at the top and bottom edges to make the shape of the mask.
Put the mask on!
