In today’s society, it is not uncommon for brands to release new products just 15 days from the conception, whether it be from seeing a new item of clothing on the runway, or noticing a new trend that has emerged. Brands like this have become capable of creating 52 fashion micro-seasons, instead of the usual two (spring/summer and fall/winter), and focus more on the high speed creation of products, rather than the quality. This rapid change of inventory is better known as Fast Fashion and can often be cheap, poor quality, and occasionally contain harmful chemicals and dyes.
“Fast fashion can be defined as cheap, trendy clothing, that samples ideas from the catwalk or celebrity culture and turns them into garments in high street stores at breakneck speed.” – Good On You.
However, a new societal consciousness is arising, and many brands are taking board, including Shhh Silk of course! This new wave of sustainable and ethical consumption has led to many companies and brands focusing their attention to the quality of their products, selling a purpose or intention, and creating timeless, non-disposable products, with a long term global view. This new idea is referred to as Slow Fashion.
“Every time you spend money, you’re casting a vote for the kind of world you want.” – Anna Lappé.
As a brand, Shhh Silk prides itself on its continued involvement and investment into Slow Fashion, using the strongest natural fibre known to man (silk) to create timeless collections of bedding, sleep accessories, and pyjamas that can be loved for a lifetime.
Unlike many other fashion and bedding companies, Shhh Silk takes almost 6 months to produce new products from conception, focusing on the quality and consistency of all items, rather than a hurried dispatch. Our designs are always original and hand created in Australia, taking up to 4 weeks to perfect, 6 weeks for sample production, and two plus months for final product manufacturing and quality approvals.
As well as the leeway time, Olivia Carr, Shhh Silk’s Founder & CEO, visits our factories in China every 6 months, to connect with the women that dedicate their time to hand sewing our products, showing her “gratitude and immense appreciation”, also to ensure the strict quality standards are always met.
“I want these incredible women to feel the human connection with our products. I have always been blown away by what they do and love watching and learning.” – Olivia Carr, CEO of Shhh Silk.
